END SARS

ABOUT

SARS (Special Anti Robbery Squad) is a branch of the Nigeria Police Force. SARS officers carry guns but do not wear Nigerian police uniforms or badges

Since the creation of SARS, they have been known for engaging in illegal acts and torturing the citizens of Nigeria. They ask for bribes, harass citizens and even kill them. Nigerians are currently protesting on the streets against the blatant disregard for their rights.

As the protests happened, there were reports of police violence all around, from tear gas to live shots. But by the 20th of October, 2020, the world watched as the Nigerian government shot protesters at the Lekki toll gate.

They ask for bribes, extort, harass, kidnap, rape and even kill citizens.

Over the years, there have been public records of SARS units committing acts of corruption and malpractice across the country.

Despite this, the Nigerian government has failed to take action.

On Wednesday the 7th of October, young people in Lagos took to the streets and
began protesting for the end of SARS, the end of injustice and the end of death at the hands of Nigerian Police.

Nigerian youth in Abuja, Ibadan,
Benin, Delta and other cities across the country have also taken to the streets to demand change and the total disbandment of the SARS police unit

As the protests happened, there were reports of police violence all around, from tear gas to live shots. But by the 20th of October, 2020, the world watched as the Nigerian government shot protesters at the Lekki toll gate.

Good day, Senator/Speaker/Governor/Sir/Ma. I am a citizen and constituent of “insert area”. I’m writing/calling/texting you to bring to your attention the #ENDSARS protest currently underway in Nigeria. As you know, SARS was created to help against armed robbers, however, SARS has spent more time harassing, stealing from and killing innocent people than they have apprehending criminals. The Nigerian government has tried to reform SARS at least 4 times, to no avail. For this reason, I am calling on you to protect your citizens and call for the disbanding and end of SARS. They can no longer be reformed. They should not be existing. Thank you.

Dear [Insert name],

My name is [INSERT NAME HERE] and I am a citizen/constituent of [INSERT COUNTRY/CITY/AREA]. I am writing to request the impeachment of the current president of Nigeria. Muhammadu Buhari. It is not easy for a constitution to request the impeachment of their president but I truly believe that is not only important but necessary.

I’m sure you are aware of the #EndSars movement and have seen videos of protesters. At this point, you have probably gotten emails, texts and even phone calls asking about your stance. Maybe you are even in a constituency that has had a lot of protests. If you do not know anything about the #EndSars Movement, take a look at this Amnesty Article: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2020/10/nigeria-authorities-repeatedly-failing-to-tackle-impunity-enjoyed-by-notorious-sars-police-unit/.

On the 20th of October 2020, the world watched in shock as army officials shot at people who were peacefully sitting down at the Lekki toll gate. As this news swept the country, more reports came in that there were Army officers shooting in different parts of the country. We know they are army officers because they had military grade weaponry which is only accessible to army people.

On the 22nd of October 2020, after radio silence from the office of the president, we watched a “live video” of the president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari. In this video, President Buhari threatened protesters, lied about the events we watched happen live, and lauded the works of his administration. He did not mention the deaths that happened at the Lekki tollgate or during the prior protests. This is an act of gross misconduct by the president of Nigeria.

So as citizens, we are calling on you to charge the president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari with gross misconduct.
1. Failure to reign in the army
2. Threatening the civil liberties of the citizens of Nigerians

Please act quickly on this. If you fail to remove Buhari from the seat of power, we will invoke section 69 of the 1999 Constitution and recall you for loss of confidence.
Sincerely,

IF YOU'RE GOING TO PROTEST IN NIGERIA
1. record yourself at the protest. Record people being peaceful. If you see any altercation with protesters and police, try to get video evidence.
2. DO NOT WEAR CONTACTS
3. IF YOU ARE TEARGASSED, DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES. INSTEAD, USE 3 SPOONS OF BAKING SODA PER GLASS OF WATER IN A SPRAYER. SPRAY IT IN YOUR FACE, AND THE BURNING WILL GO AWAY.

PROTESTORS ARE GETTING ARRESTED AT AN ALARMINGLY HIGH RATE. PLEASE LOOK AT THE TIPS BELOW TO SEE WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE ARRESTED

If you are arrested with a group of people, please you all should exchange names. Tell each other your names. The reason for this is if a set of people are released they can tell the lawyers the names of the others in the group

The police will not give lawyers access to people they cannot identify by name.

THIS IS HOW TO RECORD YOURSELF IF YOU'RE TAKEN BY SARS
